GST Calculation Formulas, Slabs & Compliance Guide (FY 2026-27)

add_circle GST Exclusive Formula (Adding GST)

When the quoted amount is base/net price excluding taxes:

GST Amount = (Base Price × GST Rate) ÷ 100
Gross Total = Base Price + GST Amount

remove_circle GST Inclusive Formula (Extracting GST)

When the quoted price is MRP or gross billing amount already containing GST:

Base Price = (Gross Total × 100) ÷ (100 + GST Rate)
GST Amount = Gross Total – Base Price

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the difference between GST inclusive and exclusive prices?

An exclusive price represents the vendor’s net earnings before tax. The buyer pays net price + calculated tax. An inclusive price (such as consumer retail MRP) is the total final cost, from which the internal tax component is backed out using the reciprocal percentage formula.

How do I report these figures into GSTR-3B?

Use the generated Table 3.1 Mapping Summary directly in your monthly or quarterly GSTR-3B return. Outward taxable supplies go into Row 3.1(a) with the respective splits for IGST, CGST, and SGST.

Can I claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) on all GST paid?

ITC can be claimed on goods and services used exclusively in the course or furtherance of business, subject to valid tax invoice possession, GSTR-2B reflection, and not being blocked under Section 17(5) of the CGST Act (e.g. personal motor vehicles, club memberships).
